KATHMANDU: Western Union, a leader in global payment services, launched mobile money transfer service for

consumers receiving money in Nepal, enabling them to credit money sent from over 200 countries and territories directly into a mobile wallet. At a press meet organised here recently, it was informed that over 200,000 registered eSewa wallet users in Nepal will be able to enjoy this service.

Not too long ago when cell phones had just been launched in Nepal, users were charged a fee for receiving calls too, not only for making them. Mobile phone owners will be thrilled to know that now it’s the other way around: You get paid for receiving phone calls.

infoDev, The World Bank has just launched the mAgri Challenge, a business competition designed to support entrepreneurs with working prototypes of mobile apps focused on agriculture in Africa. Building upon previous World Bank challenges, five finalists (teams) will be invited to a Mobile Startup Camp in November 2013 for a chance to refine their models and practice pitching their businesses to angel investors.
