Operators are aggressively expanding their data service, particularly 3G, the demand for mobile data is increasing lately due to proliferation of affordable smartphones and tablets.

KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecom (NT) has lost six per cent market share in a year, as Ncell surpassed it by three per cent in terms of market share of subscribers. Ncell has 48 per cent market share of subscribers as of mid-August, against 45 per cent market share of Nepal Telecom.

KATHMANDU: Nepal Satellite Telecom, in which TeliaSonera, a leading European telecommunication company and the major shareholder of Ncell in Nepal, recently acquired majority ownership, today announced that it is planning to re-launch the Hello Nepal brand.

The plan is for Hello Nepal to continue as a cost effective brand offering the simplest services to meet the communication needs of the people, especially in the rural areas of the country.

Ncell, the largest private telecom operator in the country, has launched Wi-Fi router that allows up to eight users to access Internet through its 3G network.

Launching the device amidst a press briefing in the capital on Wednesday, Ncell CEO Pasi Koistinen said, “We feel very proud to enjoy market leadership and introduce this product to our customers.” He said the router could be used in home, office and anywhere the customers want on the move.

Exactly a year since it kicked off its re-branding, private telecom operator Ncell recently toppled sate-owned Nepal Telecom (NT) to become the number-one mobile phone operator in the country in terms of subscription base. KATHMANDU: Technology has made it easier for the people to exchange greetings during the festive seasons through mobile phones lately.

Nepali costumers of Nepal Telecom (NT) sent/received a total of 8.4 million Short Message Service (SMS) — in four days of Dashain festival — that is an increment by three fold compared to normal flow of SMS, according to the telecom service provider.
